Boseong is well known for its green tea plantations. It is known as the green tea capital of Korea as well as one of the top producers of green tea in the world. Green tea is known to be hard to grow, with the plant required very specific weather conditions such as humidity and rainfall during the growing season. Tea plant often can only be grown within a certain range of altitudes, which is why most green tea plantations are found on the sides of hills and mountains. Boseong, with its hilly terrain and proximity to the southern sea has the perfect condition for green tea to grow.
Visitors from all over Korea come to Boseong for its green tea plantations. Here at the green tea field, you get to try and purchase all kinds of green tea products such as green tea ice cream, coffee, biscuits and of course the tea leaves itself. Getting to Boseong is also not a problem as it has its own railway station as well as a bus terminal that connects Boseong to most of the regional cities as well as the capital, Seoul.
We took a bus from Haenam to Boseong, which took about one and a half hours. From Boseong bus terminal to the green tea plantation, another bus journey is required. You can purchase the bus ticket to the green tea plantation from the bus terminal.
As you make your way to the tea plantation, you may find plenty of souvenir and local produce shops along your way. If you are lucky enough, some of the kind shop owners may even give you free samples such as green tea or green tea ice cream to try! The green tea products made in Boseong are well known throughout the country and exported to both local and overseas markets.
The highlight of the tea plantation is to climb up to the peak of the mountain, from where you can oversee the southern sea in the distance.
In summer, the tea plantations at Boseong shines a lovely green and visitors from all over the country flock over to get a taste of what the green tea capital of Korea has to offer. Transportation to Boseong is also convenient, with buses and trains serving the city.
